J・C・ランメル(J.C. Rammell)によると、踏んでも足をどければまた起き上がることからこのような名前がついた[2]。

- Benson (1964) では声調クラスの分類は「クラス7」で、他に同クラスの4音節語幹語には gatiraahũgĩ、ndiraahũgĩ などがある。
