Wiktionary:Sabo
Welcome to Sabo. "Sabo" (茶房) means a tea room in Japanese. It is a section for any Wiktionary related topics in any languages. Sabo on Wiktionary is equivalent to Chatsubo on Japanese Wikipedia, the multilingual Village Pump. You are also welcome Wiktionary:居酒屋, Japanese Wiktionary Beer Parlour. Feel free to leave your comments, questions or friendly encouragement for Japanese wiktionarians. ;-) Enjoy.
Ultimate Wiktionary
The programming on the Ultimate wiktionary has started and, as it is absolutely unclear to me what the problems of the Japanese wiktionary are about, I cannot anticipate on how the Ultimate Wiktionary can adress the issues that exist in the ja:wiktionary crowd.
As the Ultimate Wiktionary is intended to be of use for ANY language it would be great if we can discuss these issues. Thanks, GerardM 14:10, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Translation of words into German and/or Italian
Hi, I just tried to find out if there are words where I could add translations into German and/or Italian - the problem is I need the English, French or Spanish translation/meaning before being able to do this. If you are creating a word and would like German and/or Italian added, please let me know. And please also consider to use templates like {{-trans-}} {{de}}, {{es}} etc. as this favours two things: non japanese speakers can easily identify words and contribute and your content is easily interchangeable with other Wiktionaries - and all content is then also prepared for the Ultimate Wiktionary. If you have any question on these templates or would like some help, just contact me. Ciao!!! --SabineCretella 2005年6月18日 (土) 06:04 (UTC)
- Ciao Sabine, benvenuta sulla Wiktionary Giapponese! Yes, we'll consider to promote our multilingualism seriously, hence using those template. Salve, --Aphaia 2005年6月18日 (土) 15:38 (UTC)
- Ho creato un alticolo ちち dove` ho usato Template {{-trans-}}, ma non posso modificare questa sezzione con questo template. Purtroppo c'e cosa non in raggione .,.. Sai purtroppo come loro devono fare? Ciao. --Aphaia 2005年6月18日 (土) 15:44 (UTC)
- You are talking about klicking on the "edit"-link on the right side of the page, right? This is a known bug of the Mediawiki software - instead of leading to add further translations it opens the template. There's nothing to do about - the only thing is to click the edit link on top of the page. On the other hand: the templates will favour the exchange of words and also the union with Ultimate Wiktionary when we start there. I think the Japanese Wiktionary will have huge advantages from UW since it is still small and will grow immediately by quite a number of words that have Japanese translations on the Dutch and Italian wiktionary. Ciao! --SabineCretella 2005年6月18日 (土) 16:24 (UTC)
I see (oddio!), thank you for your information, ciao. --Aphaia 2005年6月18日 (土) 19:11 (UTC)

Furigana
Hi Everybody!
I tried to find the answer on my own but my Japanese is still so 下手... At the Polish Wiktionary we're trying to create a template to write furigana. Perhaps somebody has already done such a template? I would be very grateful for any information ^^ Rovdyr 2008年3月11日 (火) 16:07 (UTC)
- What you are looking for is probably Template:ふりがな. Please see the template about the usage (written in Japanese though). Please feel free to ask, if you need more information. e-Goat 2008年3月11日 (火) 16:24 (UTC)
- Thanks for the answer :-) It's not precisely what I were looking for. We want to have the furigana transcription above the kanji text. You can have a look at our first attempts here. It seems that in the meantime we managed to solve the problem that we had with the template. Anyway, thank you very much for the interest :-) Rovdyr 2008年3月11日 (火) 16:42 (UTC)
- Just to inform you: well, we haven't managed to implement the template as it works only with some browsers and we have no idea how to fix it :-( Though we found <ruby> tag that allows to write furigana. It's not fully useful as it is still not supported by all most popular browsers :-/ So we are at the point of departure. If one day you develop a template giving sth similar to <ruby>, just leave me a note ;-) Rovdyr 2008年3月11日 (火) 21:09 (UTC)
- hello. Ruby tag is supported from "XHTML 1.1". However, MediaWiki outputs "XHTML 1.0".
- Firefox, opera, and IE8beta operate based on the version.
- (example) <ruby><rb>日本語</rb><rp>(</rp><rt>にほんご</rt><rp>)</rp></ruby>
- output is 日本語(にほんご) or 日本語にほんご
- Neither IE6 nor IE7 operate based on the version. --Lemonsquash 2008年3月12日 (水) 05:09 (UTC)
- Yes, we have seen this problem with <ruby>, so we don't implement it. We aim at a template that would be easy to replace with the tag in the future, but no good ideas so far :-( Rovdyr 2008年3月13日 (木) 20:48 (UTC)
Wiktionary Hover: a JavaScript on double-click
Wikinews proposes a script to display the Wiktionary definition in a small board, when one double-click on a word. It's already been installed in at least 14 sister projects, for example you can test it by activating it the Gadgets tab of this site.
To add it here, we should vote for an administrator, in:
- MediaWiki:Gadget-dictionaryLookupHover.js, copies without the guillemets : "importScriptURI('http://en.wikinews.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-dictionaryLookupHover.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');"
- MediaWiki:Gadgets-definition, adds "* dictionaryLookupHover|dictionaryLookupHover.js"
- MediaWiki:Gadget-dictionaryLookupHover, describes the gadget. JackPotte 2009年11月17日 (火) 22:12 (UTC)
Interest is global. The script is adapted with the user interface, and the site language's. Besides, we need a script there, in order to extract the definitions from this wiktionary: en:n:MediaWiki_talk:Gadget-dictionaryLookupHover.js/how_to_adapt_to_another_language if you want to try this gadget, please let's have a look on fr:n:Special:Random Page (the script is currently on the commons.js) for more informations read:

- I am not sure if it works on Japanese sites as advertised - word boundary in Japanese text is rather hard to detect (at least for computers), so double-clicking on a word does not select/highlight the word itself usually (what is selected instead is the largest possible continuation of the characters of the same kind among Hiragana/Katakana/Kanjis under the pointer. --Makotoy 2009年11月17日 (火) 22:53 (UTC)
- Yes; determining the word boundaries for several languages will require further refinement in the java script. I will begin looking for references on how to do as I am sure this is a problem which has been resolved by other developers. - Amgine 2009年11月17日 (火) 23:03 (UTC)
- Well, the extract script is not influenced by this problem so could you help us to translate it ? It could be helpful for translation from english to japanese. Otourly 2009年11月17日 (火) 23:12 (UTC)

I made a Japanese localization of the XSLT here. --Makotoy 2009年11月20日 (金) 00:03 (UTC)
- Thank you very much it's a good work ! There is another version of the gadget there fr:MediaWiki:Gadget-LookupSide.js If you combine both of them you should have a gadget with the licence. This second version is composed with a button "Définir" appears under the search box. First, you select a word or expression, than clic on "Définir" and you received the defintion at the bottom of the page. fr:Spécial:Préférences tab "Gadget", and then "Gadgets expérimentaux (ne pas installer)" for test. Regards, Otourly 2009年11月20日 (金) 17:31 (UTC)
- I made minor changes to your localizations, as the extra <p> in the see also was causing an extra line break in the see also. In my tests the localization seemed to work fine (actually its probably the most complete localization to date). Please copy it to mediawiki:extractFirst.xsl. In my tests firefox seems to detect word boundries correctly, but not being able to speak japanese, I on't know if these are random boundries, or the correct one. We'll look into how to address that issue futher later. Bawolff 2009年11月20日 (金) 19:54 (UTC)

I posted the request for MediaWiki:extractFirst.xsl here, and another request for the gadget itself at the sysop request page of Japanese WikiNews. --Makotoy 2009年11月21日 (土) 23:01 (UTC)
Logo localization
Hello. The Wiktionary logo vote is over, and localization work needs to be done for each of the Wiktionaries. The text under the logo is set to read "ウィクショナリー 多機能辞典". Is this a correct localization? If not, please correct it at m:Wiktionary/logo/refresh/localization text. Also, should the text on the left page of the logo be vertical? --Yair rand 2010年3月24日 (水) 05:14 (UTC)
Wiktionary favicon
こんいちは! I hope I'm allowed to write in English here since I've started learning Japanese only two months ago. Could somebody please translate me? Several months ago there was a discussion over changing Wiktionary favicon here: link to bugzilla. It died because the developers didn't want change it unless there was a documented community consensus (as there's no possibility to change it locally - the change will affect all Wiktionaries). The main reason for change is that the Wiktionary favicon is now the same as the Wikipedia one, which leads to confusion and doesn't help Wiktionaries to gain recognition. The new favicon has been created: . I kindly ask you to discuss it in the form of voting so that the developers could see the results clearly. Greetings, Alkamid 2010年11月28日 (日) 14:49 (UTC) (from Polish Wiktionary)
- Witaj, Alkamid. I translated (I think most of members here can read your English though). We will have a discussion about it. Thank you for your notice. e-Goat 2010年11月28日 (日) 15:32 (UTC)
--Alkamid 2010年11月28日 (日) 14:49 (UTC) (from Polish Wiktionary) (Translated by e-Goat 2010年11月28日 (日) 15:32 (UTC))
